For more than a decade, Conestoga Elementary students have brought holiday cheer for all at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) to hear.
Vocal Music Teacher Lisa Greeno brings fifth and sixth grade chorus students to carol at Blue Cross Centre annually through BCBSNE and Conestoga Elementary Adopt-a-School partnership.
With bops like “Hip Hop Reindeer” recently sung throughout the halls, 2019’s event proved successful for students and employees alike.
“It’s one of our fun field trips students get to take,” Greeno said. “It’s nice to get them out and singing in front of people.”
The students prepared their holiday lineup for several weeks before heading to BCC, Greeno said. Stopping on several floors, they serenaded employees and shared the holiday spirit.
Kathy Nellor, BCBSNE Health Transformation Leader, said she looks forward to the students’ visit every year. As a first-time caroling coordinator for 2019, she enjoyed seeing the event from a new angle.
“It was great to be able to go with the students throughout the building and see the employees’ reactions,” Nellor said. “The smiles on everyone’s faces were heartwarming.”
The students wrapped up their visit with a pizza party and games, including pin the nose on Rudolph.
“They were all cheering each other on,” Nellor said. “They got a little competitive and were hollering at their friends. It was really fun.”
In addition to caroling at BCC, Conestoga Elementary students create artwork for BCBSNE’s holiday card.
