Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) is recognizing OneHealth Nebraska as its overall top-performing accountable care organization (ACO), highlighting the organization’s strong and consistent engagement with patients, emphasis on preventive care and focus on efficient and effective use of healthcare resources.

ACOs are networks of physicians, clinics and other healthcare providers that work together to improve quality, coordination and efficiency of care. Rather than focusing only on the number of services delivered, ACOs are designed to reward providers for improving patient outcomes, preventing avoidable complications and helping patients receive care in the most appropriate setting.

OneHealth Nebraska is BCBSNE’s highest-ranking ACO for patient preventive visits, reflecting its clinics’ commitment to engaging patients before health concerns become more serious. OneHealth Nebraska’s other key performance highlights include:

  • Ranked No. 1 among all BCBSNE ACO partners for lowest emergency room utilization.
  • Ranked No. 1 among all BCBSNE ACO partners for controlling high blood pressure.
  • Ranked No. 1 among all BCBSNE ACO partners for immunizations for adolescents.
  • Ranked second among all BCBSNE ACO partners for breast cancer screenings.

“OneHealth Nebraska’s results show what is possible when providers, patients and health plans work together around a shared goal: better health outcomes and more affordable care,” said Gretchen Twohig, BCBSNE’s executive vice president of health outcomes and provider partnerships. “Our members who are OneHealth patients benefit from their emphasis on preventive care and their focus on delivering quality care as efficiently as possible.”

“This recognition reflects the unwavering commitment of OneHealth Nebraska’s physicians and care teams to keeping patients healthier through preventive, coordinated care,” said Dr. Rachel Blake, chair of the OneHealth Nebraska ACO board of directors and Dr. Brandon Webb, OneHealth Nebraska’s chief medical officer. “Independent physician practices are uniquely positioned to build lasting relationships with patients, emphasize prevention and deliver coordinated care that improves outcomes. We are incredibly proud of every clinic that contributed to this achievement, and we remain committed to advancing high-quality, value-based care for Nebraskans.”
