Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) is continuing its support of educational initiatives by returning as the title sponsor for Nebraska’s premier golf tournament supporting local community colleges.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska Open is endorsed and operated by the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Association, with coordination from Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). The event brings together amateur and professional golfers from across the nation to raise funds for the Nebraska Community College Foundation, a nonprofit that supports education statewide.

Since 1992, the Nebraska Open has helped raise scholarship funds for students in one of five community college systems within NPPD’s service area. These colleges include Central Community College, Southeast Community College, Northeast Community College, Mid-Plains Community College and Western Community College.

“For 35 years, the Nebraska Open has made a lasting impact, providing over $2.1 million in scholarships to students across Nebraska,” said Christy Avery, tournament coordinator. “The Nebraska Open sponsorships mean so much because they directly support students pursuing their college careers. Our dedicated sponsors make this tournament possible and truly make a difference in students’ lives.”

The Nebraska Open will kick off at noon on Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Elks Country Club in Columbus. For those wanting to watch the Pro Tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, tee times start at 8 a.m. each day. An awards ceremony announcing the Nebraska Open winner will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the putting green at approximately 3 p.m.

“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, supporting local communities includes investing in the students and schools that help them thrive,” said Holly Kovy, vice president of BCBSNE’s large group market segment. “We’re proud to return as the title sponsor of the Nebraska Open and help create opportunities for students across the state.”
