HDR will join Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) in celebrating National Walk at Lunch (NW@L) Day at Aksarben Villiage’s Stinson Park from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

“We are very excited to have HDR join us this year,” said Kathy Nellor, BCBSNE’s manager of Wellness Services. “We are encouraging everyone to set aside time each day to be physically active. Regular physical activity, like walking, is an essential component for overall physical and emotional well-being.”

Walking for 30 minutes provides health benefits and can:
• Improve your mood
• Strengthen your bones and muscles
• Prevent or manage health conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes

HDR, BCBSNE’s Aksarben Village neighbor and client, will join BCBSNE to celebrate the event for the first time this year.

“I hope each employee feels empowered by the walk to do more and more each day after becoming more familiar and comfortable with their surroundings in Aksarben Village,” Tori Conklin, HDR corporate employee wellness manager, said.

BCBSNE and HDR are among the tens of thousands of individuals, businesses and corporations expected to participate in NW@L Day nationwide.

Schools from across the state—from McCook Junior High to Louisville Public Schools—are joining in on the fun. One participating Nebraska school will win a $1,000 grant for taking the NW@L Day pledge.

Additionally, BCBSNE will donate $1 per individual and $20 per group or organization that registers to Special Olympics Nebraska.

“Funds from National Walk at Lunch Day will support our 19 year-round sports, free health screenings and leadership and development for our athletes,” Erin Stoll, major gifts officer at Special Olympics Nebraska, said.

To participate in NW@L Day and stride towards better health, simply take the pledge and walk anytime, anyplace on Wednesday, April 24.
