Throughout 2021, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) continued its longstanding tradition of supporting Nebraska educators through several philanthropic efforts, including:

Adopt-a-school

During the summer, BCBSNE employees purchased school supplies for the company’s adopt-a-school partner, Conestoga Elementary School. BCBSNE was able to supply 390 students with notebooks, folders, pencils and more to prepare them for the school year. In addition to school supplies donated, BCBSNE employees raised over $1,000 in monetary donations to put toward students’ and teachers’ highly requested items, such as tissues, Dixie cups, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes and dry erase markers and erasers.

PCAN donation

In September, BCBSNE teamed up with the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA) to donate $5,000 to the Pediatric Cancer Action Network (PCAN). PCAN used these funds to further its mission to reduce the financial burden families face when battling pediatric cancer and to advocate for a cure through awareness, education and action.

Winter clothing donation

As the temperature dropped and winter began, BCBSNE provided the gift of warmth by donating funds to school districts across the state to purchase winter items for students in need. In total, BCBSNE donated $10,000 to 18 school districts to help keep kids warm and safe in the winter elements.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is committed to the health and well-being of all Nebraskans and is honored to be able to support schools and students across the state,” said Kathy Nellor, health transformation leader for BCBSNE. “We are proud to be a community partner and ensure students, families, teachers and staff have the resources they need to keep learning.”
