Angel Guardians Inc. (AGI), a nonprofit organization in Omaha, received a new set of wheels to help carry out its mission through a donation from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE).

AGI is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with different intellectual abilities. The nonprofit specializes in helping people with independent living, navigating social and work situations and transitioning from home to a community or workspace.

“We provide transportation pretty much to everyone who utilizes services through AGI, from their home to our center, but then also more and more importantly out into the community,” says Sam Comfort, executive director of Angel Guardians Inc.

The nonprofit serves anywhere from 350 to 500 individuals annually through segmented programs and outreach events. Angel Guardians has 55 individuals it supports daily on work, fitness and socialization skills. Angel Guardians is also partners with Omaha Public Schools.

In addition to the van, BCBSNE donated a variety of office supplies, including supplies such as office chairs, to the headquarters of Angel Guardians to provide the staff with an updated working environment.

“We put money into providing the services, not into physical infrastructure,” says Comfort. “Receiving those items first off made the staff very happy because they were newer items that were in good repair and really made a difference in the physical environment here at Angel Guardians.”
