Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) has been named one of America’s Best Employers for Women by Forbes magazine.

The annual feature identifies businesses who are leading the way in supporting women inside and outside their workforces. BCBSNE ranked 130th overall, and ninth among insurance companies, on the list of 400 organizations.

Women comprise 50% of the BCBSNE executive team and 70% of its workforce.

“From our front-line associates to our executive leadership team, we are proud to have women well represented in key functions across our enterprise. Our goal is to ensure that all employees feel like they belong – and this recognition demonstrates just that. We are honored to be recognized as a Best Employer for Women,” said Jay Warren Teamer, director of diversity and inclusion at BCBSNE.

The company’s Diversity and Inclusion Group (DIG) began more than 20 years ago and today drives a vibrant culture of respect and belonging. In a 2022 survey, 91% of BCBSNE employees agreed that the company values diversity, up from 87% just a year earlier. Recently, the company has sponsored programming to promote racial equity in maternal health care outcomes.

Forbes’ rankings are based on market research by Statista Inc. and an independent survey of 50,000 Americans, including 30,000 women, working at companies with at least 1,000 employees. Survey questions focused on issues like parental leave, flexibility, career and pay equity and diversity in representation. Participants evaluated their own employers and recommended others in their industries.

Forbes has also honored BCBSNE as one of “America’s Best Midsize Employers” in 2022 and “America’s Best Employers by State” in 2021.
