Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) partnered with 17 YMCAs in October to deliver free flu shots for community members from Omaha to McCook.

Hy-Vee Pharmacy, Public Health Solutions and Red Willow County Health Department administered flu shots to 410 Nebraskans across the state through the clinics.

These annual flu shot clinics allow BCBSNE to live out its mission of prioritizing the health and well-being of the communities it serves.

“Getting your flu shot is especially important because it protects vulnerable groups like kids, pregnant women and seniors,” said Dr. Thadeo Salido, senior medical director at BCBSNE. “Herd immunity helps limit the spread of infection, protecting those who can’t be vaccinated and reducing the strain on hospitals from severe flu cases.”

Geoff Weller, executive director of the YMCA of Lincoln, said these clinics are essential for keeping the community healthy.

“This collaboration with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska not only helps prevent the spread of the flu but also strengthens our shared commitment to building a healthier, safer community for all,” Weller said. “The Y’s dedication to creating opportunities for healthy living takes many forms, and these flu shot clinics play a vital role in that overall impact.”
