On Wednesday, April 30, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) invites Nebraskans to walk for 30 minutes, anywhere, anytime, in honor of National Walk at Lunch (NW@L) Day.

BCBSNE hosts NW@L Day annually to champion the health and well-being of its members and the communities it serves. On NW@L Day, not only can Nebraskans improve their health by going for a stroll; they can also create good in the community.

If 10,000 Nebraskans take the NW@L Day pledge to walk for 30 minutes on the day of the event, BCBSNE will donate $5,000 to Special Olympics Nebraska (SONE), a nonprofit providing year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with disabilities. As in previous years, an additional $1,000 donation will be made to the physical education department of one participating school.

New this year, BCBSNE will also donate $1,000 to a participating nonprofit organization.

“National Walk at Lunch Day brings the community together to walk toward better health,” said Jay Warren-Teamer, executive director of the Nebraska Blue Foundation and community and strategic engagement leader at BCBSNE. “We look forward to having organizations and individuals join us for National Walk at Lunch Day. We thank Nebraskans in advance for taking the pledge with us and making this event a success!”

Organizations, such as a company, nonprofit or school, can help BCBSNE reach its 10,000-registrant goal by registering as a team and adding the number of participants from their organization. Participants also have the option to register as an individual.

Community members are welcome to join BCBSNE at Stinson Park in Aksarben Village in Omaha from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 for a group walk.
