Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) recently extended its commitment to supporting community wellness by donating over 400 pieces of used fitness equipment to local schools and senior programs.

A variety of fitness equipment, including ellipticals, recumbent bikes, dumbbells and more, was donated to several organizations, including Saline County Aging Services, Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership (ENCAP), Duchesne High School, Bethesda Temple, Mercy High School, QLI and Catholic Charities. These donations support physical education programs for students and fitness initiatives for the clients, students and members served by these organizations.

“We are extraordinarily grateful to our partners at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for this equipment donation,” said Cat Pitman, senior longevity manager at ENCAP. “This contribution supports our goal to keep older adults in our community active, engaged and healthy – especially those who may not otherwise have access to fitness resources. It’s more than just equipment; it’s an important investment in the well-being and independence of our seniors.”

“Supporting the wellness endeavors of Nebraska nonprofit organizations is part of our mission to champion the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve,” said Jay Warren-Teamer, executive director of the Nebraska Blue Foundation and community and strategic engagement leader at BCBSNE. “We love being able to help these organizations help Nebraskans stay active at all life stages and fitness levels.”
