The Nebraska Blue Foundation has awarded $300,000 in grant funding to 20 Nebraska nonprofits to support programs focused on senior well-being and increasing access to preventive healthcare across the state.
The foundation, which serves as the philanthropic arm of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE), invited nonprofits to apply for its spring 2026 grant cycle earlier this year. Organizations submitted proposals demonstrating how their programs address the needs of Nebraska’s aging population or expand access to preventive health services, including screenings, dental care and early intervention.
“Across Nebraska, we see organizations stepping up every day to remove barriers to care and improve quality of life,” Jay Warren-Teamer, executive director of the Nebraska Blue Foundation, said. “This funding supports innovative, community-driven efforts that help people stay healthier for a longer period of time, closer to home.”
Grant funds will support a wide range of initiatives, including senior wellness and nutrition programs, expanded access to screenings and oral healthcare, rural outreach services and efforts to strengthen social connections.
Grant recipients supporting Nebraska’s seniors include: Kearney Family YMCA; Kimball Health Services; American Heart Association – Nebraska; Ho-Chunk Community Development Corporation; Lincoln Hygiene Network; Intercultural Senior Center; NeighborGood; New Cassel Foundation; Omaha Parks Foundation; and Willard Community Center.
“At NeighborGood, receiving this grant is far more than a financial contribution; it is a direct investment in the health, dignity and independence of Sarpy County and Ralston’s aging population,” Melissa Nelson, executive director of NeighborGood, said. “This funding ensures that our most vulnerable older adults do not have to make the agonizing choice between medicine and nutritious food.”
Grant recipients supporting increased access to preventive healthcare include: University of Nebraska Foundation; Creighton University; One Stop Cancer Shop Nebraska; Girls Incorporated of Omaha; Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department Foundation; Mary Young YMCA of Beatrice; Third City Community Clinic; Henderson Health Care Foundation; Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Foundation; and Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement.
