Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) has joined the Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA) as an investor in its upcoming 2025 program, becoming the first health insurance company to partner with the organization.

The GIA’s intensive, mentor-driven accelerator program empowers insurance technology startups to refine their products, gain market traction and secure funding. Through this mutually beneficial relationship with GIA, BCBSNE will gain early access to innovative insurance technology solutions while contributing to the growth of participating start-ups by offering industry expertise, mentorship and potential collaboration opportunities.

“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, we believe that innovation is the key to delivering exceptional value and service to our customers and the providers and brokers we partner with,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO of BCBSNE. “Our partnership with the GIA aligns with our commitment to fostering a culture of innovation in the health insurance industry. We look forward to collaborating with the GIA to shape the future of health care and promote meaningful change to make the system stronger and more efficient.”

Dan Israel, managing director at the GIA, stated, “We are thrilled to have Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska join us as an investor in the 2025 Fund. Over the past 11 years, the GIA has worked to build up the most unique ecosystem in InsurTech innovation. Adding BCBSNE as our first health insurer investor ensures we continue to lead in early-stage innovation, and we look forward to seeing health-based start-ups apply. Together, we will continue to drive positive change and transformation in the insurance ecosystem.”
