Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) has announced two executive leadership changes that reflect the organization’s continuing commitment to building strong partnerships with health care providers and advancing its digital and data strategy to better serve all members.

Gretchen Twohig, previously executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary at BCBSNE, has assumed a new role as executive vice president of provider partnerships and health outcomes. In this role, Twohig leads a new division focused on aligning internal resources to strengthen relationships with Nebraska health care providers, working with them to improve health outcomes for BCBSNE members through collaboration and shared incentives.

“Our goal is to improve health care with providers, rather than do things “to” providers as some insurance companies might do. In order for us to improve health care in our state, we have to work together. This new provider partnerships and health outcomes division will enable us to build and sustain strong relationships with providers for the benefit of Nebraskans,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO of BCBSNE. “We value our relationships with providers and are committed to collaborating with them to lower costs and create better health outcomes for our members, their patients.”

Additionally, Rama Kolli, chief information officer at BCBSNE, has joined the executive leadership team to facilitate an enhanced focus on the technology, innovation and data-driven insights that are key to helping BCBSNE achieve its mission of being a champion for the health and well-being of members and the communities the company serves.

“I believe that if you are not a technology company in today’s world, you are destined for the dustpan of history. This realignment will help us develop a robust digital strategy that extends our world-class customer service to the digital world,” Russell said. “Our customers expect the same digital experience they know from best-in-class consumer brands. Our goal is to deliver on that expectation.”

These leadership changes reflect BCBSNE’s ongoing commitment to helping members live their best and healthiest life.

“We’re proud to have served Nebraskans for 85 years and look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come,” Russell said. “We know the next 85 years will take new thinking and approaches. We’re ready for the challenge and look forward to being a champion for the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve.”
