High school educators across Nebraska will have the opportunity to boost their health and well-being programs with a grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska’s (BCBSNE) Healthy Home Team initiative.

BCBSNE is asking Nebraska high schools to submit proposals for a grant by Wednesday, May 14 that details how the school will use grant funds to enhance the health and well-being of its students and community.

A panel of BCBSNE judges will review submissions and select 100 schools to receive a $500 grant for their health and well-being projects. In addition to the funds, winning schools will receive a customized team spirit sign to proudly display in their athletic facilities. Later this year, the BCBSNE panel will choose one school to receive a $5,000 grant to further support their students and community.

Launched in 2024, the Healthy Home Team initiative supports health and wellness projects in communities statewide. In its first year, the program awarded $500 grants to 100 high schools and a $5,000 grant to North Platte High School’s food and essential item pantry.

“The enthusiasm and innovative ideas we saw from schools across the state last year were truly inspiring,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO of BCBSNE. “Nebraska schools play such a key role in fostering the health and well-being of their students and their communities. We can’t wait to see what year two of Healthy Home Team brings.”

As part of BCBSNE’s mission to champion the health and well-being of its members and the communities it serves, the company intends to partner with all 309 high schools in Nebraska through the Healthy Home Team initiative by the end of 2026. In total, BCBSNE will contribute over $165,000 in direct funding to support high schools statewide through the Healthy Home Team initiative, reinforcing the company’s dedication to building healthier communities across the state.
