Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) is proud to offer members several proven solutions to manage, and in some cases, reverse diabetes.
Although it is an often-invisible disease, diabetes affects more than 122 million Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is also the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. People with diagnosed diabetes have a 50% higher risk of early death than those without.
Fortunately, better health management can help people with diabetes live longer and healthier lives, preventing or delaying complications.
BCBSNE offers a broad range of diabetes care offerings:
Type 1, Type 2 and Pre-diabetes Management Program
With this program, participants work with a BCBSNE nurse care manager, who can help them manage their condition and get the most out of their health insurance benefits. Participants can interact with their care manager by phone or use a personalized, mobile-based platform that integrates with glucose monitors.
Type 2 Diabetes Reversal Program
This program, powered by Virta, can help reverse Type 2 diabetes using the clinically proven combination of nutritional ketosis, medical supervision and one-on-one health coaching. The program helps participants lose weight, reduce blood sugar and A1c and potentially eliminate the need for diabetes medications.
$0 Cost Share for Preferred Insulin
As of Jan. 1, 2022, preferred insulin therapy is available at no out-of-pocket cost to BCBSNE members diagnosed with diabetes who are covered under a fully insured health plan.
“From pre-diabetes to diabetes management and reversal, we offer our members the support, resources and benefits they need,” said Dr. Josette Gordon-Simet, BCBSNE medical director. “We are able to work with our members one-on-one and help them through their journey to a healthier lifestyle.”
To learn how these programs can help, members can call 844-201-1546 or the Member Services number on the back of their member ID card.
