Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) hit a home run during this year’s Strike Out Hunger competition benefiting the Food Bank for the Heartland.
Each summer, Food Bank for the Heartland organizes a friendly competition among Nebraska businesses to help put food on the tables of those in need across the 93 counties the food bank serves. Participating companies are split into divisions depending on their size.
BCBSNE participated in the wildcard division for companies with over 1,000 employees. Team Blue took first place for the most meals donated per employee in this division, contributing 17,029 meals to individuals and families in the Heartland.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work Team Blue put into Strike Out Hunger this year,” said Chad Werner, BCBSNE’s chief financial officer and Food Bank for the Heartland board member. “The time and effort put into this year’s campaign really paid off and will truly make an impact on our members and communities in need across the state.”
In total, Strike Out Hunger helped provide 403,722 meals to Nebraska and western Iowa residents.
