On Wednesday, April 30, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) partnered with YMCAs across the state to encourage Nebraskans to step toward better health and a stronger community by participating in National Walk at Lunch (NW@L) Day.
BCBSNE pledged to donate $5,000 to Special Olympics Nebraska (SONE) if 10,000 walkers registered for the event. The company surpassed its goal and had nearly 15,660 people, including 584 BCBSNE employees, take the NW@L Day pledge.
“National Walk at Lunch Day shows how even small steps can lead to a big impact,” said Caroline Kahnk, well-being coordinator at BCBSNE. “It’s inspiring to see so many people walking together for health and community support.”
This year, BCBSNE showed its continued support for the community by awarding a $1,000 donation to a participating school. South Platte Public Schools was randomly selected from 32 participating schools to receive a grant supporting its physical education program. BCBSNE representatives celebrated with students and staff during a check presentation, recognizing the school’s commitment to wellness.
This year, BCBSNE also expanded its community impact by awarding an additional $1,000 donation to a participating nonprofit. The Latino Center of the Midlands received the donation for its participation in the event. This new nonprofit donation supports BCBSNE’s continued efforts to uplift organizations that serve the community.
