In July, summer interns from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) rolled up their sleeves at the Nebraska Diaper Bank, giving their time to help make a difference for Nebraska families.
The experience helps interns get a better understanding of the company’s mission: to champion the health and well-being of its members and the communities it serves. Interns helped sort and package 19,350 diapers for 325 babies across the state.
“Each year, we design our intern program to help them grow and give students a deeper understanding of our company and our industry,” said Stacia Hoffman, senior talent acquisition specialist and intern committee member at BCBSNE. “It’s important to show our interns how their work can make a meaningful difference. Whether it’s through volunteer efforts like this or the projects they support during their internship, we want them to see the impact of what we do at BCBSNE.”
Throughout the summer, the company’s interns also connect with intern alumni, attend weekly development seminars and meet with mentors. At the end of the summer, all interns will present their ideas to help the company better serve Nebraskans.
“I get to see first-hand the impact corporate giving and volunteerism has on the community,” said Natalie Gill, community engagement intern at BCBSNE. “The experiences I’ve had here, organizing and participating in community engagement events, have truly helped me understand what I want in an employer as I start thinking about graduation.”
