Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) recently wrapped up its National Volunteer Month celebration, with 72 employees donating more than 200 hours in support of Nebraska nonprofits.

Observed each April, National Volunteer Month highlights the impact and importance of volunteers at a local, state and national level.

Every year, BCBSNE recognizes the month by partnering with organizations committed to uplifting Nebraska communities. This year, the company partnered with the following 14 nonprofits: Nebraska Humane Society; Intercultural Senior Center; Boys and Girls Club; Nebraska Diaper Bank; Food Bank for the Heartland; Catholic Charities of Omaha; Habitat for Humanity; Heart Ministry Center; American Lung Association; CASA for Douglas County; Completely KIDS; Siena Francis House; Together Omaha; and Keep Omaha Beautiful.

These partnerships provided employees with a variety of opportunities to give back and make a difference in the lives of others.

“Volunteering at the Nebraska Diaper Bank was a meaningful experience that reinforced the power of teamwork and community impact,” said Monica Parr, manager of claims at BCBSNE. “My favorite part was bonding with my team while knowing our efforts truly made a difference. Together, we wrapped 20,610 diapers, directly supporting 343 babies this month. It was rewarding to see how a few hours of service can positively impact so many families.”

In the end, these efforts helped BCBSNE mark another April of employee-driven support and service.

“National Volunteer Month is something we look forward to each year as a chance to give back and support the communities we serve,” said Jay Warren-Teamer, community and strategic engagement leader at BCBSNE. “We’re proud of our tradition of empowering employees to get involved and create lasting, positive change.”
