The days of laying in the sun are done; school has begun! For another year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) donated school supplies to its adopt-a-school partner, Conestoga Elementary, to prepare students and teachers for their school year.
This year, BCBSNE employees had multiple opportunities to help Conestoga Elementary. Throughout July, employees were invited to adopt a classroom, donate supplies, give funds or volunteer their time to assemble supply bags for students.
“Our annual school supply drive is a favorite among our employees,” said Jay Warren-Teamer, executive director of the Nebraska Blue Foundation and DEI at BCBSNE. “Giving students the tools they need to learn and grow is all part of our mission to be a champion for the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve.”
On Thursday, Aug. 1, 33 BCBSNE employees volunteered to assemble supply bags filled with the donations Team Blue provided. These supply bags were dropped off at Conestoga Elementary for their back-to-school night. During the event, students picked up the bags, which had all the supplies they needed for a successful school year.
In total, BCBSNE provided supplies for all 370 students and 20 teachers at Conestoga Elementary. Donations also allowed for additional supplies, such as tissues, snacks and hand sanitizer, to be provided.
Manager of Health and Business Analytics Karah Gardner says she found rich reward through volunteering at bag assembly.
“It was exciting to see the room full of people supporting the Conestoga Elementary School drive,” said Gardner. “Initiatives like this not only provide essential supplies to students and teachers in need but also foster our People Matter value at BCBSNE! Every pencil, notebook and backpack donated is a step toward equipping our children and teachers for success.”
