Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) has been recognized by the United Way of the Midlands (UWM) as Volunteer Organization of the Year for the work the company does to support UWM’s mission.

The UWM’s Volunteer Organization of the Year award is given to companies that consistently strive to improve the community through volunteerism. BCBSNE was chosen for this award based on its high level of employee engagement and participation in UWM volunteer events during the 2023 campaign year, including:

  • Setting a record by assembling 1,500 hygiene kits for One World Community Health Centers during the company’s Good on the Go event.
  • Volunteering for UWM’s Shine Bright event, which provided hygiene kits to students in Omaha and Council Bluffs, and participating in Day of Caring, which brought volunteers together to support nonprofits throughout the community.
  • Building lasting relationships with UWM partner nonprofits, ensuring continued community support.

BCBSNE President and CEO Jeff Russell, along with Gretchen Twohig, executive vice president of health outcomes and provider partnerships, accepted the award at the UWM’s annual awards luncheon on behalf of the company.

“Being recognized as Volunteer Organization of the Year is a testament to our employees, who consistently step up to champion the health and well-being of our members and the communities we serve,” said Russell. “We are proud to partner with United Way of the Midlands in building a stronger, healthier community.”
