On Friday, Sept. 12, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) employees volunteered at local organizations to celebrate United Way of the Midlands’ (UWM) Day of Caring.

The annual volunteer event, hosted by UWM, brings together individuals, families and teams from across the metro to support meaningful projects and local nonprofits. BCBSNE employees volunteered their time at Omaha Home for Boys, Nebraska Diaper Bank and Heart Ministry Center, among others.

“Day of Caring is an event we look forward to each year,” said Jay Warren-Teamer, community and strategic engagement leader at BCBSNE. “Our employees enjoy giving back however they can. It’s a special opportunity to uplift Nebraskans alongside our fellow community members.”

BCBSNE has a longstanding tradition of supporting UWM. In addition to volunteering for Day of Caring, employees host an annual fundraising campaign for the nonprofit.

Earlier this year, Jeff Russell, president and CEO of BCBSNE, was announced as the 2025 UWM citywide campaign chair. In this role, Russell assists UWM in engaging community members to raise funds for more than 130 local nonprofits and direct services.

“When we, our loved ones or our neighbors are in need, United Way of the Midlands is often the first call,” Russell said. “It’s our turn to be there for them through events like Day of Caring and by raising funds through the annual campaign to support their important work year-round.”
