Over 90 high schools across Nebraska will receive $500 grants to support the health and well-being of their students and communities through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska’s (BCBSNE) Healthy Home Team initiative.

BCBSNE kicked off the second year of its Healthy Home Team initiative in April, inviting high schools across the state to apply. The 92 schools chosen will receive a $500 grant and custom sign to hang in their athletic facilities, showcasing their team spirit and commitment to health.

In addition to the $500 grant and spirit sign, one of the selected schools will receive a $5,000 grant later this year to further support their wellness efforts.

“Nebraska schools play such a key role in fostering the health and well-being of their students and their communities and we are proud to support them,” said Jeff Russell, BCBSNE’s president and chief executive officer. “I look forward to seeing how this year’s grant recipients will bring their ideas to life.”

Schools will receive funding to support a wide range of programs – either already in development or ready to expand with support from a Healthy Home Team grant, including mental health programming, community gardens, running/walking events and more.

“The future of our state lies with Nebraska’s students,” Russell said. “Healthy Home Team allows us to support meaningful programs through our schools that make a real difference in the lives of students and their families – both now and for generations to come.”

By 2026, BCBSNE is committed to advancing health and well-being in every one of Nebraska’s 300+ high schools, investing more than $165,000 to fund programs, provide resources and foster healthier school communities.
