Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) recently donated 18 projectors and two TVs to Angel Guardians Inc. (AGI) to support both existing initiatives and the development of new programs that will enrich the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities the nonprofit serves.

AGI is an Omaha nonprofit dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where individuals of all abilities can build life skills, self-sufficiency and self-esteem. The donated projectors and TVs will support virtual programming, allowing AGI to deliver services directly into clients’ homes. They’ll also be used for events like outdoor movie nights.

“We’re excited to set the equipment up and utilize it in a way that we can have interactions with people and they don’t necessarily have to be in [the AGI] space,” Sam Comfort, executive director at AGI, said. “It means increasing independence for our clients. We can have interactions and support our clients but don’t have to be in their homes when they don’t need us.”

This donation reflects BCBSNE’s commitment to championing the health and well-being of its members and the communities it serves by helping to expand access to essential services.

“We’re proud to support organizations like AGI that are making an impact in the lives of Nebraskans,” said Rama Kolli, chief information officer at BCBSNE. “Donating technology like this helps expand access to care and strengthen community connections, ensuring everyone has the tools they need to support their well-being.”

This is not the first time BCBSNE has partnered with AGI. Previous equipment donations have been used to upgrade internal technology or sold at Hand Me Ups, AGI’s thrift store, with proceeds funding programs and a used vehicle to transport clients.

“One of our core beliefs is that we’re better together,” Comfort said. “The idea of inclusion and integration and providing opportunities for the people we serve is huge in the core of what we do. As a nonprofit, we can’t afford this equipment, so being able to get physical donations enhances the quality of services we provide.”
