Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) is excited to announce 100 Nebraska high schools will each receive a $500 grant through the company’s Healthy Home Team initiative.

Healthy Home Team is a community initiative that awards grants to Nebraska high schools to support the health and well-being of their communities.

School representatives from across the state submitted applications starting in June detailing how they would use the Healthy Home Team grant funds to promote health and well-being in their communities. Some proposals to enhance health and well-being included creating a calm space at school with new equipment, launching a fifth-grade gardening program to grow produce for school lunches and stocking restrooms with free personal hygiene products.

“I am pleased to announce that 100 Nebraska high schools are 2024 Health Home Team grant recipients,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO of BCBSNE. “These schools represent communities in 58 of Nebraska’s 93 counties. We’re proud to support our schools in shaping a vibrant and thriving Nebraska for years to come.”

Each school will also receive a customized sign to display in their athletic facilities, showcasing their team spirit and commitment to health. In addition to the $500 grants and signs, one Healthy Home Team school will receive an extra $5,000 grant this November to further support their health and well-being efforts. The $5,000 recipient will be chosen by a panel of BCBSNE judges based on the impact, feasibility and creativity of the school’s ideas for the funds.

Looking ahead, BCBSNE plans to welcome 100 new schools as Healthy Home Team partners each year, aiming to provide grants to all 309 high schools across Nebraska within a three-year cycle. By contributing over $165,000 directly to schools across the state through the campaign, BCBSNE will champion health and well-being in a way that is meaningful to each community.
